the way home

These days are so long

and my legs so weary

i wish you were here

to carry me home

a hazel hue to light the way

my voice, a guide

travelling fast enough

to beat the break of day

when we arrive a bed awaits

and there, we take rest

a side for each of us

a sanctuary for lovers

we fall asleep

and we hope we meet in our dreams

because even in sleep

we can’t bear to be alone

a ritual: for lovers

These gentle streets guide me to you

brought here by some unknown obligation.

I see the lights and they shine vermilion

the cars and the trains pass me by.

Footsteps play out of tempo

creating a sound I have never heard before,

yet one that is so familiar,

like some deep forgotten memory.

It is like these roads know I am approaching-

preparing the path, carved by your words.

Your breath; the breeze that lightly ushers me,

and your eyes; the lamps that light the journey.

My arrival is ritual, a voyager lost at sea,

a prodigal son, a solider from war.

I return just as they did; always to you

always, home.

i am not ready

Stirring in the night, a tortured soul. Pain, heavy chest, broken cries. Weariest eyes, endurance, only just persevering. You tell me you can’t much longer. ‘Please’ I whisper. I am not ready.

A look. A thousand words within it. A deep breath, cracks my heart and twists my lungs. I plead with the clock- be my friend today. Make this moment last. A look. I know it can’t.

Quivering lip, gentle touches. ‘It is okay’. Lies bring comfort. Let us dream now, dream always. Time is ours here, we are forever. Infinite beings, no disease, no problems.

Then the moment when they take you away. But you are mine, I am yours, you belong somewhere. How will you find me? How will I breathe? How will I be, when I am not ready?

‘I am ready, let me go’.

Afterlife

Your soul was there when god created light. When the heavens were put in the sky. When hell was banished beneath us. When land was created to keep us.

You are an ancient divinity no words are worthy to describe. Birthed from light. You are in every fibre of this life’s being- woven into my night.

So, now I bow before you, my love; today, tomorrow, forever. You are in every plane of my existence . My now, my then. This breath and the last. You are my afterlife.
